“The grandfather“, dimensions 35 Χ 64 cm, kind of wood cypress, completed November 5, 1999

This scene depicts a grandfather and a grandmother who keep on their feet their grandchild. The grandchild is ‘wrapped’. Some years ago when the baby was born s/he was wrapped with a large cloth, the ‘swaddling clothes’ to keep the body and especially the spine straight. This process lasted about a year to avoid subsequent physical abnormalities.

I made the first little statue in the football team’s locker room at Rousospiti. When I did, however, and brought in Axos, I thought to make and a grandmother not to be alone.

For the body of the grandmother I did not have a model, but the face is the face of my grandmother from my father’s side, her name was Maria.
